The parents of a close friend of mine is in hospital due to a car accident. Mr Ahmad is still in critical condition and would need to stabilize before they can further operate on him, his wife has stabilized but still in the ICU. The daughter (the driver) however died as she suffered the most. What I hope is that we all can pray for the safety and health of Mr Ahmad and wife.

In a month's time I will be changing my status, will no longer be a bachelor, but married. :) As some of you might noticed I slowed down a bit on blogging this year. The reason being that every time I started to write I seemed to blurt that bit out and because the fiancee prefers that our relationship be kept out of the net, I usually revert to just deleting the entry.

In tandem with keeping things on the quiet end, my wedding will only be a small and simple affair, with only my relatives, and close friends invited for the wedding. Not even going as far as creating a website for it :)

So till next time, Adieu :rose:

What does a bird and time have in common? both can fly :) For surely time flies when u are busy or having fun. For the most part I was having fun. Workload has been tremendous, but amazingly I had fun. :)

After the Vball tournament as expected I was off again for another work trip. Went on a short course for biology teachers. Supposed it was for the head of biology panel, but there's only one biology teacher so I end up going for it. Was actually informed earlier by a fellow biology teacher from Faris Petra, but forgot all about it until the letter arrived at school. The course was a bit sour, maybe becaused I'm used to biology trips during my univ days, but it was ok in the end. Got a bit of exposure on becoming a better biology teacher. Hopefully!!

Luckily not so far after that it was the mid year break, but I didn't really get any rest. Was busy going to & fro and everywhere. Lots of wedding invitation to go to. I think I was more tired after the hols than I was before it.

Now after all that I don't think the activity in my school has gone down a notch but instead I think there's gonna be a flurry of activities afterward. Need to be prepared mentally for it :) There's the uniformed camp and so on so forth.

I do hope that I'll get some rest in betweens :) So till then.

A few weeks ago I was tagged by naz seems she wants to know my weird habits :p So here goes.

1. I watch movies like I read books, I like to pause then go eat, toilet, etcetera then unpause and continue watching where I left it off. This is why I seldom watch movies with other people except if its on the telly or in the cinema.

2. I still watch movies like I read books, which is why I can watch 2 or 3 movies at the same time. Owing to my luck having a laptop n a desktop which could be turned on and showing 2 diff movies :p

        3. I like my computers turned on even if I'm asleep or even if I only need one to do my work. Currently I have my desktop turned on and downloading anime and using my laptop to write this entry.

4. I have a bit of attention deficit disorder (ADD), which is why I quickly lose interest in a project or hobby then I need to find a new project or hobby. Which can best explains why I have too many hobbies. New to old hobbies RC Helicopter, GPS, Poetry, Photography, Keychains, Computers, Cycling, Books. (forgot about the others) Seems the only hobby that I still like is books, cause after I finish a book I can always start on a new one.

5. I am somewhat of a rain magnet, whenever I decide to give my car a bit of a wash, the sky would suddenly turn to gray and rains. Sometimes if I think about it hard enough (washing car part) it still would rain.

6. I also noticed that whenever I go into an almost empty shop/restaurant, then it would somehow get crowded. Pakai tangkal tarik pelanggan ke aku nih? But then this happens with my mom as well, which is why my uncle likes it when my mum decides to give his shop a visit. :o

So that is what I consider to be weird, if u want to remind me of my other weirdness please feel free to do so in the comments. :)

I do realize that I have a blog, but hmmm I cant really spend that 10 minutes of time that I used to allocate just to write a simple entry. The workload this year has been crazy and non-stop. Early in the year I was stuck in school, doing all sort of things, settling down a bit and then... I was going out of school so much that I feel like I'm neglecting my students, lucky that I have given them work to do during my so called outstation. Currently I'm out of school, training the district volleyball team. We have a game next week, and then supposedly I can settle down at school again (yeah right). I know that there will be tonnes more work waiting for me at school. For instance there's the test that is ongoing right now, I'll finish the vball games just in time to mark the papers. This is the life of a very busy school teacher :)

Nevertheless I enjoy this hectic pace, couldn't really imagine myself just simply teaching at school :)

I realized it has been over a month since I last wrote anything, but the workload this year has been tremendous. Started all the way in late december till now, and today is the only day that I can properly take a breather, was in fact planning to spend the day watching movies and so on. But I still have lesson plans to write for next week.

So what have I been up to the last month, nothing exciting actually. There was the usual Aidil Adha at my grandpa's, 2 cows were up to offer this year. Did my part and got a share of the cow. A tiring Aidil Adha as usual, only relieved by the fact that I get to see a lot of my relatives.

Then school sort of started early for me this year, we had our staff meeting right before Aidil Adha and I had to have the new school timetable ready before that and was only given 3 days to finish. So I had one out that was only of mediocre standard. Usually I'd take a week to churn out a good timetable. But we do have to work under pressure sometimes :)

School was hectic this first month, up to now there's already 3 company that came to install/service various things, one installed a new set of projectors for the science labs, another came to service the language lab and still one more came to install a new fingerprint clocking system. Luckily I only had to oversee 2 out of 3, but that still took a chunk out of my time.

Then there was the various trainings, sport house trainings and volleyball training started early this year. Beginning to feel that my skin has taken on another shade due to all the trainings.

There are other things that have happened, but then again I don't feel like telling hahahah. Maybe I'll write something proper the next time I write. For now I'll just continue watching movies and reruns of Smallville Season 6.

I was just surfing around the internet, just wasting time. When I spotted a forum with a topic titled "Winners of the CoU Second Anniversary Celebration!", and I scrolled down and lo and behold mr karlbum is a lucky draw winner!!! Apparently I won a free software courtesy of said forum, but a year ago!!!! A forum that I don't even remember registering for, so I checked when I registered on that forum, guess what? I registered in 2003!! No wonder I have not a clue what the forum is all about. But as it is, I won a software named Ewido Security Suite Plus, and even that software doesn't exist anymore, it has been bought over by the Grisoft group and renamed.

Lucky enough to be randomly picked to get a free software, but unlucky enough to get it in Oct 2005, a period of time that I did not have time to check my email due to the fact that it was actually my last few months at maktab and I was very busy with assignments and preparing for finals. Just my luck I guess. C'est la vie :)

Went to Kota Bharu today, with the intention of settling a few matters that was hanging on me. First I wanted to go to the PBSMM (Red Crescent) HQ, I wanted to check the price for my uniform. But the PBSM Shop was closed!!!

Officer's uniform are usually a bit more expensive, so just wanted to confirm and have one tailored for me. (Yep they have their own tailor :p) Actually I already have a uniform, but that one was badly made, ill-fitting and according to a superior cut the wrong way. It was made when I was still in maktab and now I needed a new one as my school has just set aside a day where the students can wear uniforms to the school. I'm the head advisor so naturally I should set an example. So I was thinking that I could salvage the shirt from the last uniform and put that to use as a double for the new one. Alas the shop was closed and now I will have to go again another day.

Secondly, I wanted to repair my O2 Mini, the speaker has been giving me troubles, can't actually hear anything thru it. Wanted to send it off to the shop, but the shop that I went to said that they lacked the capability to fix it. Sheesh, why did u open a handphone repair shop if you can't fix one :p And the rejection was done without even asking what was wrong with the phone. If the guy was nice enough I would have given him a printout from the internet that showed how to fix the problem step by step. I would have done it myself if I got the tools.

I guess I'll try another shop, another day. As today it was already nearing the end of office hours and I just wanted to get out of KB before the rush hour. No point getting stuck in the middle of a jam for nothing. Till my next complaint.

Adieu

It is that time of year again, time for me to reflect a year added to my life, a year added to my age. What have I achieved this 2006? Truly I can't say much, except that I have reaped the rewards of my toil in 2005. Might I say that this year I can hold my head up high, because I have partially redeemed my wayward ways of yesteryears.

This year also means that I am truly a civil servant, here to serve the masses. This year, I worked hard, harder than most years in my life. Mostly for my self, for that inner satisfaction. Just so that I know, I can do anything that I will myself to. This year I made a promise to do everything as they should be done, and I'm glad that I have done what I could if not the best of my capabilities.

This year has truly been satisfying. Words will never be enough to explain everything, and some things are meant to never be spoken/written. It is high time that I reward myself for a job well done, but hmmm, it seems I can't make up my mind. Perhaps I will take it slow, and truly peruse what I should get. A watch would be nice, as I haven't wore one for a full year now (good excuse for being late). I have been eyeing a certain Casio Protrek PRG-80YT watch for months now. But a handphone would be good too, to replace my ailing O2 Mini, perhaps I will truly get the desirable Dopod D810. But money is always the barrier, between want and need. But is it?

It is almost a week since school hols started, but I am still at school, not because I'm hardworking. In fact I'm still here because I'm lazy :p

I'm not the only one here, there are numerous other teachers, they are mostly here because they are on duty, and one physics teacher is here for the same reason as I am.

Actually I'm doing extra classes for my biology students, just to finish up on their syllabus and start early on their form 5 syllabus. Also because I'm keeping an eye on the form 5 students. You know how kids feel more secure when they have their teacher around, even if the teacher can offer little or no help at all.

Just did an experiment with my students yesterday, I was not really thinking of doing experiments with them, more of teaching theories and stuff. But they wanted to do an experiment and I have no problem about it. So yesterday we cut up some frogs to learn about their anatomy, which I believe they enjoyed the break from normal teaching. There was one scaredy-cat though. Who didn't even want to take a look at the frog, the squirmish type, who have now earned the nickname "puteri katak". Overall, I think the experiment served its purpose, which was to give them a preview to comparative anatomy, which they would never get to see unless they took up biology at university level.

I think that's it, I have to prepare for my afternoon class now.

Adieu

p/s: I'm in the middle of sorting out my photo collection, will upload them soon, as soon as I've decided on the categories.

An issue has been highlighted recently by our media, this concerned our PM wanting feedbacks from Malaysian that have studied oversea and what they saw there that could be applied to our university and improve it further. This is somehow related to the concern that our universities are not favourably ranked by the world. Our ranks usually starts in the hundreds and usually UM our oldest univ getting the better rank.

The highlight was that the ranking systems focuses on the product (students/graduates) and the manufacturers (lecturers). How good/ready are the students when they leave the univ and how qualified are the lecturer plus how many researchs/advancements they have done.

With this in mind, feedback was needed to see how overseas university compares to our local university, as the request comes directly from the PM, we can imagine how serious our government is taking the issue. Thus far the feedback line is still open (to my knowledge) and just now I saw something on TV that suggests while our PM was abroad he talked to Malaysian students and lecturers there to hear what they have to say.

One particular comment that was highlighted was from a Dr. Syed Nasrin Syed Zainal Abidin who previously taught in USM for 3 years and in the UK (Univ of Birmingham?) for 6 years. The comment was that when comparing our students in the UK and when he was teaching in USM, he believes that the students in Malaysia (USM) put a lot more effort into studying, their downfall was only that they are not proficient in English. He also believes that we need to prepare our student for the global market and not just for our region (South East Asia).

Here was the point that got me thinking, if our students are alreading putting their backs in studying, but still getting no luck in securing a job then it is our local university that actually does a bad job of preparing a student for the workplace. The university mainly focuses on the professional courses such as Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering and so on (even bragging how good they are), while continuing to fail in preparing students with a general degree to have a grasp on what they would face when they enter the marketplace. This has been mentioned a lot of time, the university needs to know what the employers want, they can't simply stuck a syllabus to a degree without realizing which part of the syllabus is actually going to help the student when they are working.

For a science major, I felt that my syllabus was designed as if all of the students wanted to be researchers and lecturers and enter academia. That is an impossibility in itself, some courses were plain useless and at times redundant, with more than one course covering the same basics. As an example is there a major difference between Enviromental Management and Aquatic Environment Management? not by much if you took the course, just the focus was changed.

The idea has been mooted for sometime now, the University need to have feedback from the employer what basics they want in their future employee. For the professional courses it is simple for the professional body to give feedbacks to univ, but other employers? I would not deny that some jobs would require extensive on the job training by employers as the job requirements are too highly specialized. But somehow I can see that most students comes out without even the basic knowledge. Some degrees have it the other way around, even though they are not professionally linked, they are somehow too specialized, making it hard for the graduate to find the exact work that will fit their degree. Thus making the degree just a requisite for higher pay and not knowledge.

For me I was lucky that along the way I picked up some basic human skills that is needed in almost every other job. Luck plus plain interest in the field of human psychology :p To which I can happily say that I have had a multitude of job while I was still studying, and not all in the same field. Thus, I gained experience on what my future employer would expect of me. To be on the crazy side, I chose a job which was not related at all to my degree :) and I'm having fun doing it :D

Which leaves me to my final question. Have your university education prepared you for your current job, or did you pick up the skills on your own? Leave a comment.

Till next time, Adieu

Hola, it's been a while since I last wrote here, not that I was purposely neglecting my blog, but then it tends to get quite busy at school that I just can't make time to write a proper update, I suppose I could leave short updates, but that wouldn't really quench your thirst for info would it?

Here's a short amalgamation of happenings in my life lately, first and foremost I went on an interview, those on my YM probably saw the weird status about a month ago .. heheh yes it's been that long. The interview is actually my appointment interview. The ministry have this long and strenuous process that need to be done before I get my confirmation as a teacher. This interview is part of it.
I got to get interviewed by a member of the SPP (Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Pendidikan), a free goverment body that deals with the service of the members of the ministry (MOE). It was a Dato' that interviewed me. I was scared shitless, mainly because I wasn't prepared. Heck, I even forgot to print out a valuation of my Degree from the internet.

Suffice to say I was a nervous wreck that day, couldn't stay inside the waiting room, as I feel too cold, and couldn't stay outside as it was too hot, and in the end I ended up standing in the doorway. Expecting an earthquake I suppose. Haha

Waiting for my turn I heard murmurs from inside the interview room, and believe me, what I heard didn't make me comfy. The Dato' was angry at someone inside the room there.. huuuu scary, he/she must have forgotten some stuff in there.

Then, it was my turn, I got asked some pretty complex questions, some of which I.... I... I made up the answers to? ahahaha don't know what happened, but I think I was too nervous, to the point where I was asked who was the ex-KPPM, I couldn't answer it, and to make it worse, I also couldn't tell him who is the current KPPM. I only managed to tell him it was Dato' Dr. Ahamad bin Sipon after a bit of coaching. The interviewer/Dato' actually laughed as he said it seems that I studied too hard, that's why I couldn't remember a thing. I only had a wry smile for that. I didn't study at all, if you discount the studying that I did outside the door.. ahahahha. Luckily I managed to get out of the interview room alive. Didn't get barked at like some of the other interviewees.

A few weeks ago I got the good news that I passed the interview, it was a joyful moment for me. Yay!!!! managed to pull myself thru that, now I just need to do some routine medical checkup and I can be on my way to becoming a confirmed teacher. :p (certified teacher done, now only confirm)

The second thing is, there's nobody at home right now, my parents went off for Mecca a day before Ramadhan, they are performing their Umrah. They have always like to fast there, says it's more peaceful, and I believe they deserve it, as they haven't been there for a long time, in fact the first time after their retirement. Have to look after the home right now.

Oh, I'm also starting a new hobby, flying radio controlled helicopters. Burned the tail motor of my first heli and currently waiting for a new heli to arrive direct from HK. I suppose it will fill my time when I don't want to go and play volleyball. Oh yeah, due to me playing too much volleyball, I now have a bad knee and losing weight, guess I'll be fit and not so fit at the same time.. ekekke :p

Till the next update, adieu

It has been a full week, my holiday doesn't even feel like it was one, except for the lack of needing to go to class and teach.

Heck, I've been really busy this past week, I've only been able to take a rest on friday and from saturday till tuesday my schedule was really full. First on saturday I was busy buying stuff to make into door-gifts, and no it is not for my wedding and its not related to weddings at all. That was tiring, running around finding things for the gifts. Thankfully my mom, had an idea where to find all this things, and that really smooths thing along a bit.
On Sunday I had to go to Perkampungan Hadhari at Kota Bharu, was supposed to escort my students there, but as it is, I wiggled a little bit and all I had to do was wait there at the place itself instead of riding a bus all the way from the school. Phew, once the students were there, all that was left to do was to let them loose. That part was easy, finding them back to get them all into the bus was a little bit harder. The students were also brought to KB Mall, in case any of them had an urge to buy things, although I believe it was more of a sightseeing trip for the students. All they bought were tonnes of junk food. I guess that is what kids do :) Junk food is like staple food to them. :D

On Monday, is the biggest hurdle and the most tiring. I was one of the organizers for my school's family day. Seriously it was tiring, I was in charge of the activities for kids and adults alike. I was also in charge of the door-gifts. Yep this is the reason I've been buying and making lots of door-gifts. Primarily the door-gifts are for the kids, I put all sort of sweets in there including some fruit puddings plus a bonus of ballons for them to huff n puff :) The activities weren't that packed but it sure was tiring trying to get it all to run smoothly. The first night was BBQ night. Had to go and buy seafoods, and other paraphernalia that was needed for the BBQ. This part was a bit tiring, had to go to a few different places to get all the seafoods that was in the menu and the other bits. Luckily the BBQ ran smoothly without a hitch. It was BBQ all the way from 8 till 10 pm. Was relieved to see that the food was enough for everyone :)

Afterward I joined the guys at the seaside for a bit of fishing competition. I was supposed to be the marshall of the competition. Had to see who caught what. It was not done for too long as the guys was already tired from the BBQ. After we know who the winners were, the competition was closed. Next morning is the dreaded time. I had to run the activities, mostly its just games for both kids and adults. Lucky that I had helps from the other organizers. Don't know what would have happened if I was to be left to my own devices. After all the fun it was time for a quick photoshoot, and as it were a reporter was nearby and spotted us, so he interviewed the principal about our activity, and guess what.. we where in the newspaper the next day :p

Lunchtime was when we got all together for the prize giving ceremony and the last meal there :) On the whole it was a new experience for me, organizing a family day, lucky my friends were very supportive and did a lot of work to help me.

After all those tiring days, I decided to take a rest and slept in on Wednesday, but still my rest were interupted by the vice principal coming to my house asking me for help with his master, but the interuption was brief as it was only a small favor asking for the use of my internet :)

Today (Thursday), I decided to go on a little shopping spree, rewarding myself on a job well done :p plus it was the Malaysian MegaSale Carnival. Bought myself a couple of trackpants to replace the old one that is slowly deteriorating into rags. I also searched around for a new shoe, it was really hard finding a shoe that would fit me, the biggest size they had was 10, which was fine by me, because that's my usual size. But to my amazement they all didn't fit, even the more expensive ones. Was really depressed because I would have really liked to buy a new walking shoe, as the old one looks a little bit depressing and not fit for going to functions anymore. But on my way out there was this little corner where they put all the heavily discounted items. The usual place had discounts ranging from 10 to 30 percents but here it was from 50 to 70 percents. Had a look at the shoes, asked a bit if they had size 10 shoes, one of the shoes that I liked, they only had it in size 6, which was like duhhh the size of my hand? But lucky me, the other shoe, they didn't have a size 10, but they did have a size 11, and it fitted nicely! That was pure luck, as they claimed before that the biggest they had was size 10. Grabbed it and immediately paid for it. I guess my feet have a way of saying that it liked expensive shoes, but it like expensive shoes that is cheap better. Because all of the other shoes was a little bit expensive.. ranging from RM80 to RM150 but they all didn't fit, but the only shoe that I fit was the one that was RM250++ and it was discounted 50% so hell it was cheaper than the shoes that I looked at before :P I guess my feet do have taste after all :p

Adieu, till next time

        Anak kecil berlari-lari,
Riang, gembira, sambil tertawa,
Indah sungguh ibu pertiwi,
Aman, damai, sentiasa.

Nun jauh di sana,
Anak kecil berlari-lari,
Sedih, berlinangan air mata,
Berlari, menyelamatkan diri.

Tidakkah kau lihat wahai kawan,
Bumi bertuah, hijau melata,
Syukurlah diri wahai kawan,
Bumi bertuah, milik kita.

Nun jauh disana,
Buminya masih berlinangan air mata,
Darah merah, segar mengalir,
Anak kecil menangis kesepian,
Mencari-cari, erti kehilangan.

Tanah mereka diceroboh,
Mereka dipermain-mainkan,
Pertiwi dilanyak, diroboh,
Dimana ertinya kemerdekaan.

Indah sungguh ibu pertiwi,
Aman, damai, sentiasa,
Erti merdeka penuh dihati,
Marilah kita menghayatinya,

Luahkanlah perasaan hati,
Launglah merdeka sekuat hati,
Merdeka... Merdeka..... Merdeka...

As per my prior post, I went off to Penang for almost a week, 6 days to be exact, the 4 days was spent stuck in a conference room, verifying the data for my school. But I managed to sneak out at night and spend it with friends. Met namiaz, Iskandar also of RHFC and the ever famous Hajar or her callsign 9W2JAR. After the 4 days, I stayed back as the rest of my fellow workers troop back to Kelantan. Spent two days with my friends, helping namiaz with the setting up of his new stationery shop, although I acted more like a 'mandur' hahahahaha :) Managed to watch a movie, pirates of the carribean 2 with both namiaz and jaja, of which both me and namiaz managed to doze off in the middle of the movie, which left jaja to watch the movie all by herself. Heheheh

While attending my meeting and conferences I also managed to go and buy myself a brand new digital camera, its a Ricoh Caplio R4. Started to take a few shot on the camera, but as of yet it has not been fully utilised, I need to make time to go and take some pictures :D The time spent there was great, am looking forward to another meetup with friends, probably I'll turn up in KL or Kedah in the near future :) Just to catch up and maybe to get a few gadgets, heheheh :D

As of now, I'm definitely very busy, making all the timetable for the school, very strenuous on the brain.. erghhhhh

Adiue
